Mafalda International Illustration Competition.

Tribute to Quino

I. Object of the call

The object of this call, promoted by the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics, is to promote the talent and creativity of international artists while supporting the link

between the municipality of El Sauzal and the culture of comics and narrative in images. The proposal centers on Mafalda, a character created by the Argentine author

Quino, and is planned after June 26, 2025, an 80-centimeter figure made by the Argentine sculptor Pablo Irrgang is installed next to the Corporación workshops.

The purpose is to celebrate an illustration competition centered on the comic that gives a name to the personaje with arrangements for the conditions that are

collected on the bases that the continuation is detailed. The purpose of promoting and boosting artistic expression and creators relies on the inclusion of winning

creation as one of the promotional cards of the XXIII Salón Internacional de Comic y la Ilustración de Tenerife (part VII) and the constitution of an exhibition with the

received works (part VIII).

II. Participants and number of works

The call for the Mafalda International Illustration Contest (at the end of the Contest) will be open to any person over the age of 18, regardless of their country of origin

or residence, whenever they respect the bases described here.

Each participant may present a maximum of three (3) works. Each of the works must respect the cartel measurements, which will be 53x84cm. Furthermore, you must respect the grid that is included at the end of these bases.

III. Registration and general documentation

To be able to participate in this call, the registration form available on the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics website must be completed, specifically on the link where

information relating to this call is collected:

This form can be presented until 23:59 hours (Canarian time) on May 15, 2026. Delay and failure to comply with this requirement will result in the immediate

dequalification of the participating person.

The following documents must be attached to this form:

a) The work/s presented in PDF format. Each work will be in a single PDF file.

b) Numbered list of the works that are presented, titles and any other material, techniques used or clarification of how the work was carried out, which is considered

important for the evaluation by the jury.

c) PDF digital file of the DNI or NIE (obverse and reverse).

d) Authorization signed to allow the diffusion and/or publication of the works presented. (Annex I)

e) Participating people must provide the following information on the form: name and surname, email, contact telephone number and social network with which they identify.

Each attached file will have a weight of at most 10Mb.

In an exceptional case of extreme need for mayor power, the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics reserves the right to extend the deadline for delivery of originals contemplated in this clause, announcing it on its website.

IV. General exclusions

The following assumptions are considered causes of immediate exclusion from the Competition:

IV.1. In no case will works that do not respect human rights be accepted for competition, including content that is offensive or disrespectful to people or collectives.

IV.2. Registered participants will be responsible for ensuring that there are no rights of third parties affected, nor will anyone complain about the image rights of those who appear in them, exempting the organization of the Contest from any type of responsibility.

IV.3. The proof of the existence of data not adjusted to reality, at any moment in the process prior to the award, may involve the denial of the award without prejudice to the responsibilities in which the applicants could incur.

IV.4. The works presented must respect the measurements that are indicated in section II of these bases, and adjust to the competition grid.

IV.5. As stated in the previous clause (III), works delivered after 23:59 of May 15, 2026 will not be admitted.

V. General conditions

The documentation will be delivered in a digital PDF file and will be presented exclusively through the website, filling out the corresponding registration form. It will be

an indispensable condition that the works presented are their own, original and unpublished. All types of copies are excluded.

VI. Selection and development

The jury will be composed of:

● The president is the president, who will be a person proposed by the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics.

● Three vocalists, who will be people from recognized backgrounds in the comic field and who will be designated by the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics.

● The secretary or secretary, who will be a person designated by the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics, to prepare minutes of the jury's fall and all those aspects that are considered relevant.

The juror will be expected to value originality, creativity and artistic execution based on the age of the participating people and will be the body responsible for

addressing the case, resolving those situations not contemplated on these bases, as well as those doubts that arise over its interpretation. The Fundación Canaria

Cine+Cómics reserves the right to include those people that the Ayuntamiento de El Sauzal considers appropriate to include in the jury.

VII. Award

The winning cartel will be economically rewarded with five hundred euros (€500.00). Furthermore, this work will be chosen as one of the cards for the XXIII Salón

Internacional del Comic y la Ilustración de Tenerife, which will be held in the last quarter of 2026.

IMPORTANT. The prize will be subject to tax withholdings as set out in the law.

VIII. Exhibition of works

From the total number of works received, including the winning illustration, a sample will be selected for its exhibition in the Exhibition Hall of the Municipality of El

Sauzal, between the 19th of June and the 5th of July. The number of works exhibited in this modality will be thirty (30), although the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics

reserves the right to reproduce a greater quantity. All works will be accompanied by a card that identifies the person who bears their authorship and the social network

with which they want to be identified.

The rest of the cards submitted to the competition that were not excluded due to failure to collect them on these bases will form part of a virtual exhibition that will be

permanently available on the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics website.

The Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics reserves the right to travel or expand this exhibition with other works presented in the Competition, in the development of its

promotion and promotion activities for comics in the Canary Islands.

IX. Ownership of works and responsibility for damages.

Works or themes of their own and original authorship will be presented, created by the same people who competed in the call, making the participants responsible for

obtaining the appropriate authorizations for the use of contents or images of third people (in which case this would occur), exempting the organization from any type

of derivative responsibility.

The award-winning works will now be included in the documentation fund of the Fundación Canaria Cine+Cómics, reserving the right to use them and cede them for

the greater diffusion of them, without more limitations than those derived from Royal Legislative Decree 1/1996, of April 12, by which the recast text of it is

understood. Intellectual Property Law.

Participation in this call presupposes the total acceptance of these bases.
